Our coaching staff is made up of full-time professionals in the sport of rowing. In addition to U.S. National Team coaching, we have coached in the following collegiate conferences: Atlantic Ten, Big Ten, Ivy League and Pac-12.

More than 25 years as a collegiate head coach, Peterson’s passion for rowing is contagious. He is successful at guiding athletes in attaining their full potential. He has coached both at the collegiate and national team level and has mentored 11 athletes that have gone on to earn spots on the U.S. National Team, five who earned medals at the World Championships or Olympics.

  • At Indiana University, has coached nine All-Americans, 17 All-Region athletes, and 31 All-Big Ten athletes
  • NCAA 2014 Division I National Head Coach and Staff of the Year
  • NCAA 2015 Division I Regional Staff of the Year
  • Atlantic 10 Conference coach of the year in 2000 and 2001
  • Coached U.S. Lightweight Women for four years to multiple medals at both the World Championships and Pan Am Games
  • Guided Indiana University rowing to five consecutive NCAA Championships and top 15 national rankings from 2014 to 2018
  • Member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team
  • 1990 World Champion in the Lightweight Double Sculls
  • Seven-time U.S. National Rowing Team member
  • Inducted into USRowing Hall of Fame in 2007
  • Inducted into the University of Rhode Island Hall of Fame in 2000

Katie Bitz

  • Novice women’s rowing coach at Indiana University
  • Guided crews to three Big Ten Championship medals in 6 years at Michigan State
  • Spent four years as an assistant coach with the U.S. National Team
  • Helped lead the Princeton lightweight crews in 2010-11, where the Varsity Eight finished the regular season undefeated and took second place at IRAs
  • Three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as an athlete
  • Won two Big Ten team titles in 2005 and 2008
  • Coxswain for the 2008 Varsity Eight Big Ten champion and advanced to NCAA Championship Grand Finals  
  • 2008 First-team All-Big Ten and First-team All-Central Region athlete.
  • 2007 Second-Team All-Big Ten honors

Haley Yeager

  • Varsity Fours coach at Indiana University
  • Spent three years coaching at her alma mater, the University of Washington
  • Helped guide the Huskies to a National Championship in 2017 and a National Runner-Up finish as a team in 2018
  • Member of the 2017 NCAA Division I Coaching Staff of the Year
  • Lead the Novice Eight to the gold medal at the 2017 Pac-12 Championship
  • As an athlete, won a Pac-12 Championship title in the Novice Eight in 2009 and a silver medal in the Second Varsity Eight in 2010
  • Earned her undergraduate degree in Public Health with a minor in Political Science in 2013 and a Master’s Degree in Education from the Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership program at the University of Washington
